T-Mobile 5G&Me Experience Center

T-Mobile 5G&Me Experience Center

Over the course of about 18 months, we brought to life 14 different immersive interactives that showcase the power of 5G and the near-future reality that it enables - from transportation, agriculture, healthcare, and public infrastructure. 5G & Me uses cutting edge technology, innovative interaction and thoughtful design to achieve the highest level of immersive storytelling possible. Being one of the lead designers on this project, I touched almost every one of the interactives you see in the video below. This project was an immense team effort with some amazingly talented partners, and I am so proud to have been involved!

On this page I highlight select pieces of this project that I had the heaviest hand in: Product Wall and Connected Environments.

Experience Overview

Product Wall

The 5G Product Wall features a futuristic, mirrored retail wall that is fully customized and responsive to the shopper. When the shopper walks up to the wall, sensors illuminate the wall with UI that encourages the shopper to browse and even makes suggestions based on their preferences. The smart sensors know when a product has been picked up, displaying further pricing and purchase information, and even allowing the shopper to purchase just by continuing to hold. In addition to the main screen, we also designed a Customer Experience Tablet that features controls the shop owner would use.

My responsibilities for this piece included schematic design, pixel mapping, detail UI design and handoff to dev for both main product wall and tablet.

Sensor Placement
Since we were designing this wall while construction was being finished, we had a huge say in where the sensors were placed in order for the product wall to accommodate the ideal number of products. We planned out the safe zone for the UI next to each item as well as the ideal sensor placement, all remotely.

Wireframes
For the main retail wall, we wireframed the different steps of the user’s retail journey and mapped out all of the details for how much information can show for each product, how many steps does it take for the user to learn more or purchase, and making sure it all works for products of various sizes.

For the tablet, we focused on wireframing out all the information a potential retail storeowner may want to see on their back end - customer profiles, trends, low stock alerts, high sales, and more.

Connected Environments

Connected Environments is another large-scale digital installation consisting of a 3x4 screen array, controlled by a docent. This piece showcases a futuristic city & airport environment (built in Unreal) that utilize 5G in things like street lights, smart trashbins, parking, and more.

My role in this interactive consisted heavily of UI (in the 3D environment and on the dashboards) and custom vector map illustration.
